GP's Rib 'N Grill Undated photo of GP's Rib 'N Grill, located at Pershing Road and Boulevard East (today's Charrito's Restaurant). Built in 1895, but frequently remodeled, it has also been called Van Clief's Hotel, Farley's Hotel, Silver Fox, among other names. From the collection of the Weehawken Historical Commission. -
Matchbook - Shanghai Reds Matchbook from Shanghai Red's, which was located on Pier D-T, at the current site of the Chart House on the Weehawken waterfront. Shanghai Red's opened in 1984, one of the first restaurants on the rehabbed waterfront. Unfortunately, the restaurant went bankrupt in 1993 and was replaced in 1994 by the Chart House, which later suffered a fire and has now also closed. The Time Machine does not believe in curses, but... According to a review of the newly opened Chart House from 1994, "You never went to Shanghai Red's for the food. The salad greens were often brown, the steaks pre-cooked, the desserts desultory. But what a view!" Not a great epitaph, but there you go. Thanks to Susie Felber of the Weehawken Gazette for clearing up errors on this page - no Shanghai Red's may have burned a steak or two, but it never burned down. -
Restaurant Cafe - Live Boiled Lobsters My Specialty Business card of August Kaiser, proprietor of a restaurant at 307 Park Avenue, which was located just south of the old town hall, and just north of the Shippen Street stairs.
